This is the wierdest tree I have ever seen. If you cannot fully see or appreciate the wierdness, do click the photo to enlarge...and if you know what kind of tree it is, let me know!

IT APPEARS TO BE A CEIBA TREE, ALSO KNOWN AS THE KAPOK TREE. LATER THEY WILL GROW 'ELEPHANT KNEES' TO HELP STABILIZE THE TRUNK SINCE THE ROOT SYSTEM IS SUPERFICIAL. AS THE TREE MATURES, IT WILL LOSE THE SHARP NODULES. THE FLOWERING PART IS PUFFY AND WAS USED DURING THE WAR YEARS AS FLOTATION MATERIAL FOR LIFE JACKETS AND LIFE RAFTS... BEFORE PLASTICS.

Don't think I would climb that one. It must be an acne tree....
