This guy was part of the Basilica too, and found hiding in this quiet corner. :) These are huge beautiful moths, and though I don't know what they're called I can tell you that they are the size of a small hand or bigger and they feel like fine leather. If we leave our windows open at night (which are screenless - there's very few insects at this altitude) and the curtain as well, we will most certainly see one of these resting on one of our walls in the morning.

can't decide if I'd leave the windows open or closed. to have one land on the wall is one thing....but waking up with one on my head would be quite another!

The first time this happened to us, we didn't know what it was, and it was so big, we thought it was a bird! Imagine our surprise :)

My goodness that's a huge moth. I thought it was a fungus at first glance. I have been enjoying your blogs and found your work in Quito interesting and its nice to find a fellow Christian on the blog circuit.
