Wierdness...

IT APPEARS TO BE A CEIBA TREE, ALSO KNOWN AS THE KAPOK TREE. LATER THEY WILL GROW 'ELEPHANT KNEES' TO HELP STABILIZE THE TRUNK SINCE THE ROOT SYSTEM IS SUPERFICIAL. AS THE TREE MATURES, IT WILL LOSE THE SHARP NODULES. THE FLOWERING PART IS PUFFY AND WAS USED DURING THE WAR YEARS AS FLOTATION MATERIAL FOR LIFE JACKETS AND LIFE RAFTS... BEFORE PLASTICS.
